"The striking photographs in this small volume appeal to the historical imagination on two very important levels. First, they evoke the ever-changing yet consistently enduring savage beauty of the field of Antietam. But they also connect the land with the human element. This is a book for those who reach out to feel the past."Joseph L. Harsh, author & historian ▪

about the PHOTOGRAPHER: H. Casser-Jayne has been a working artist for twenty-five years. Expressing herself creatively as an actress, writer, radio personality, foreign correspondent, documentary producer, magazine publisher and editor, it was through photography that she discovered the heart of her artistic soul. A student of The New School and Shepherd University, she credits famed Magnum photographer, Eli Reed, whom she met while on assignment in El Salvador, for the courage to believe in her vision. Her fascination with the Battle of Antietam began when she found her first Civil War era bullet on her farm six miles across the Potomac from the site of one of the bloodiest single battles in American history. When not combing her farm for relics, H. Casser-Jayne can be found tending to one of her four-legged friends with whom she shares her farm.
